It’s with great excitement that we celebrate 11 years in business!
Tap into Safety t/as TIS Training is turning 11 years young in June 2025!
So much has happened over the years, we thought we’d take you on a journey back in time as we reminisce.
What is noteworthy is the Founders Forum’s recent report that provides statistics on start-up businesses. It shows that:
- 90% of startups fail overall
- 10% fail within the first year
- 70% fail during years two through five
- Failure rates are similar across all industries.
The report explains that successful start-ups have:
- Perfect product-market fit: They create solutions that precisely address customer needs
- Comprehensive approach: They don’t ignore any aspect of the business, from product to processes
- Rapid growth: They scale quickly, which attracts further investment
- Adaptable teams: They can pivot and recover from setbacks.
This is how Tap into Safety did it.
The Early Years
As a startup business based in Perth, Western Australia, in 2014, TIS consisted of both Sue and Geoff as the business’ core employees and Directors. At that time, we were self-funded together with family support and contracting our software development to a local boutique agency.
In 2015, we brought our developers and designers in-house because this move gave us more control over what we built and how the platform functioned. Much of this team remains with the business today, and their skills and talent continue to contribute to our success.
Our first client back in 2014 was Lendlease, and we set to work developing custom-built training content for their high-risk activities. After 11 years in business, our client base has grown considerably, and every month we train thousands of employees across a range of different industries, including construction, mining, logistics and utilities. We help train their induction and onboarding, high-risk activities, compliance requirements, supervisor and leadership skills, and toolbox sessions.
Shooting forward to early 2018, we raised $750k, which allowed us to execute our growth plans. That funding was critical to support our product and global client expansion, and we remain grateful for our shareholders’ continued support.
The Growth Years
The growth years of our 11 years in business saw us navigate the headwinds of the global pandemic, with COVID-19 causing most training companies to fold. We hung in there and extended the platform to move from only developing custom-built training content to using our expertise to develop a library of pre-built microlearning courses.
Today, the TIS Training library has grown to over 200 pre-built courses and assessments in multiple languages, including Australian English and all clients have access to all of them. Also, we opened up the platform to provide all of our courses in SCORM packages.
We added API, single-sign-on, webhooks, and 2-factor authentication to help with security.
Then, we moved to a white-label format to allow our clients to add their logo and corporate colours while TIS took a back seat with our branding.
What’s Next?
After 11 years in business, we’re keeping our ear to the ground and actively listening to our clients’ needs. We’re moving the platform into a complete learning management system.
The next feature on the TIS Platform is a build-your-own portal. Scheduled to be released in July 2025, you will be able to add your own content, add your videos and learning materials, add our courses and pre-built videos, modify our assessments and add your own, and attach your documents for sign off. Our course builder will also allow you to publish in SCORM packages to use on your own LMS. In 2026, we will add an Ai assistant to help you create your course content and an Ai video builder to help you build your courses.
Following that, in early 2026, we will release individual employee dashboards and extend our scheduling and alerting features. As we move forward, the platform will provide extended LMS functionality, including broadening our comprehensive reporting and data insights.
