The Australian Privacy Principles are a privacy framework that applies to Australian government organisations, organisations that provide health services, and any private sector organisation generating an annual revenue of over $3 million. This includes organisations outside Australia that store or process data of Australian citizens.
This course discusses the 13 privacy principles as amended in the 1988 Australian Privacy Act.

- Understand that individuals have a right not to identify themselves.
- Learn when an organisation can collect personal information.
- Understand that the organisation must not collect sensitive information unless without it the organisation cannot carry out its functions.
- Learn what to do if the organisation receives unsolicited personal information.
- Understand that before collecting personal information the organisation must notify the individual.
- Learn that the organisation must not use or disclose personal information for the purpose of marketing.
- Understand the requirement to protect the information from misuse and unauthorised access.
- Learn that the individual must have the means to complain about inaccuracies in their personal data or a breach.
- Understand the standards, rights and obligations when collecting personal data.
