Confined spaces pose dangers because they are usually not designed to be areas where people work. Confined spaces often have poor ventilation which allows hazardous atmospheres to quickly develop, especially if the space is small.
This refresher course defines what is meant by a confined space, applying for permits, conducting a risk assessment, determining who is permitted to work in the space, and the role of the standby person. The training discusses the need for appropriate rescue, emergency response and first aid resources. It talks about harmful atmospheres, signage and the need to ensure restricted entry.
