All workplaces are required to adhere to safety requirements. Your employees must understand the duties of your organisation and themselves in managing risks to provide a safe workplace. While at work they must take reasonable care of their own health and safety, take reasonable care of the health and safety of others and comply with any reasonable instructions, policies and procedures given by their employer at the workplace.

This course outlines employees’ entitlement to health and safety representation and the right to refuse unsafe work. It discusses the duty of care, identifying hazards and risks, determining the likelihood of harm, and selecting practical control measures.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this course learners will:

  1. Understand their work health and safety obligations.
  2. Learn about their entitlements to ensure any safety concerns are conveyed.
  3. Learn that they can stop work if they feel that they are not safe.
  4. Learn what a hazard, a risk and risk control are.
  5. Understand how to determine what is reasonably practicable to control a hazard or risk.
  6. Learn about the safety hierarchy of controls.
