This course discusses the need to pre-plan the journey to understand the route and road conditions.
The training includes information on load distribution and packaging, securing techniques, regular inspection and maintenance, adapting to road conditions and driving behaviour. It also covers communication with load recipients, displaying signage about the load, regular load checks, what to do in an emergency, and reporting and record-keeping.
Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this course, learners will:
- Learn how to plan the load and assess the load requirements, understand the route and road conditions, and weather conditions.
- Learn how to ensure the load is evenly distributed within the trailer or truck bed.
- Learn how to prevent loads from shifting during transit.
- Understand what to check in pre-trip inspections.
- Learn when to adjust and reduce their travel speed.
- Learn how often to check the load and how to ensure it remains safely restrained.
- Learn what should be included in the emergency response plan.
- Understand the importance of effective communication about loading and unloading procedures, weight, dimensions, and safely removing restraints.
- Understand what paperwork they should have to hand including securement certificates, inspection reports, and relevant permits.
- Understand the importance of engaging with industry associations, regulatory bodies, and relevant authorities to foster innovative load restraint solutions.
