Listen to Dr Sue Bahn Founder and CEO Tap into Safety discuss the life of being an entrepreneur in Western Australia at the Morning Startup M2K event that was held in the evening and not at breakfast which is the usual style of the event.
The discussion very quickly focused on capital raising because for most early stage and businesses that are scaling money is always top of mind. Questions discussed included: When is the best time to seek outside investment? Should you raise before you build your product? Should you list on the ASX? Smart money versus any money? The panel got quite involved and pretty heated over this topic with Geoff, CEO of Hazer suggesting “Take any money you can get” and Sue, CEO of Tap into Safety arguing that “Only raise if you absolutely have to. You need to be careful who you get into bed with!”and finally Russell, CEO of Velpic taking up the middle ground. There were certainly some rather funny comments on social media the next day.
Thanks to Techboard and Morning Startup for hosting the panel session; it was a fantastic event.
Five years on and Morning Startup has grown from two guys hashing out their startup issues in a coffee shop, to Perth’s largest regular startup meetup group with over 2200 members!
Morning Startup is a fortnightly morning catch up held at Spacecubed in Perth where founders, potential entrepreneurs and others in the startup community get together to learn something interesting, get feedback on an idea, vent frustrations, and meet some new friends in the game.
To celebrate their 2000 member milestone, they hosted the biggest, baddest startup party Perth has ever seen! Morning Startup M2K!
