Working in and around a stock picking warehouse exposes workers on foot to hazards associated with moving plant such as forklifts and stock pickers.

The scene pays attention to the safety of workers who are walking in the warehouse while customer orders are selected and packed. Moving equipment presents a number of risks to workers on foot in that they can move quickly and have line of sight limitations.

This means that constant awareness is a critical safety measure when working around moving equipment. The course has a focus on the safety of workers on foot, especially when they are handpicking stock.

Learning Outcomes:

At the completion of this course learners will:

  1. Learn how to apply the Safety Hierarchy of Controls to address workplace hazards.
  2. Learn how to safely lift an object to avoid manual handling injuries.
  3. Learn the importance of correctly parking up mobile equipment such as forklifts to prevent unintended movement.
  4. Understand the weight limits when stock picking and placing stock on machinery.
  5. Understand the importance of regular housekeeping to remove slip and trip hazards and coming into contact with protruding materials.
  6. Learn how to store materials at height to prevent unintended falling to the level below.
  7. Learn how to safely pick stock by hand including wearing personal protective equipment, safe manual handling and working from height off ladders and platforms.
  8. Learn what to do in the case of a fire or major emergency.
  9. Learn how to recognise and manage fatigue hazards.
  10. Learn how to operate the forklift safely and not come into contact with racking.
