One of the primary hazards associated with excavation work is contact with underground services.
This course trains on how to identify underground services before any type of excavation work is undertaken. It provides a 6-step process:
- Plan the Dig
- Site Visit
- Pothole or Hand Dig
- Protect the Services
- Proceed
- Restore the Site
The course also explains what to do if any damage occurs to an infrastructure asset and encourages immediate reporting to the asset owner.
Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this course, learners will:
- Learn how to plan excavation work to identify underground services.
- Understand the importance of visiting the site before the excavation work commences.
- Understand that plans on the location of underground assets must be current.
- Learn how to check the physical conditions of the site and look for evidence of underground or overhead services.
- Learn how to establish the exact location of all underground infrastructure by potholing or hand digging.
- Learn how to protect underground infrastructure.
- Learn to restore the site after the excavation work is completed.
- Understand to report any damage to infrastructure immediately to the asset owner and follow any applicable emergency procedures.
