Happy New Financial Year! And what a great and fast start to the new year it has been!
In this article we share our clients physical safety focus areas, thoughts on mental health and key achievements.
New Clients and Key Achievements
- July has been a very busy month for TIS with several new clients coming on board and the team flying all over the country taking panoramic photographs for the Hazard Insight content.
- For the second year running we are in the Top 200 Westpac Businesses of Tomorrow 2018. It is such an honour to stand shoulder to shoulder with some amazing Australian businesses and will be treated to workshops to grow the business hosted at the Melbourne Business School in October. See the announcement.
- We have entered a re-seller partnership with the mighty SAI Global (media announcement coming soon) that will see global distribution of our safety and mental health solutions. If you are already a SAI Global client please ask them about our solutions as we can integrate with their EHS Safety Platform to offer a single access portal. We also entered into a referral partnership with Gemstar Technology who are now actively promoting our solutions in Asia. Gemma Manning heads up Gemstar and is very well respected in Singapore and SE Asia. We look forward to working together with her team.
Out and About on Client Sites
Our Adventures in the Pilbara
There is nothing more thrilling for the TIS Production Team to be filming on client sites to produce content in our safety training solution to help them tackle key workplace safety and mental health concerns.
Early in the month, we were privileged to be up in the Pilbara working with a Tier One Mining client (announcement coming soon) in their Maintenance Workshops. Their focus was mainly around hand injuries and they helped us by setting up their workshops with staged hazards on equipment and machinery for the customised training modules we are developing for them.
While we were onsite one of their Fitters asked to take a look at what we were doing and made the comment:
“Wow, I am so pleased you are using real life photographs of our workshop! I like the game and the panoramic image we can scroll around. I’ve completed other companies inductions and they use cartoons and headsets but I really didn’t take it seriously. How am I supposed to relate to a cartoon?”
Filming for MBAWA
Back in Perth we filmed on a commercial construction site for Master Builders Association WA and for this, their third training course, the focus is working on and around scaffolding.
Developing accurate panoramic scenes on this topic was a challenge as we were filming on a live site and dodging the rain. This training course will move users from the ground floor to the top floor of the building to fully interrogate hazards for fixed, mobile and frame scaffold use.
MBAWA have generously agreed to make this course, and the two completed ones on working at height for commercial and residential construction, available as part of our pre-built content via the TIS platform to freely use within our annual subscription.
Working with Asplundh Tree Expert Australia
We then flew to NSW to work with Asplundh Tree Expert Australia who we recently welcomed as a new client.
Their focus in the training courses we are developing for them in TIS is on working with electricity. They provide a wonderful service of trimming and lopping trees that if left unattended can come into contact with power lines and we all know what the result of that means – fires and blackouts!
Asplundh are embracing TIS as Daryl Marshall, Safety & Compliance Manager, says:
“We do behavioural observations but we’re not sure we’re targeting the right crews. The reporting in TIS will show which crews to work with and who to check on and we can now direct that. It will give us quantifiable data, not influenced by the Supervisor and who he chose to do the observation on. It will show actual results of the individual and the results are a true reflection”.
Asplundh see using the solution creates for them a point of difference for their clients, as Daryl commented:
“We are big believers of doing safety differently. Zero is the target but we need to be realistic. We recognise when the human is involved there’s going to be error. We will now be able to go to clients who ask “what are you going to do about this?” We can now tell clients this is what we’re doing introducing TIS to benchmark and go from there”.
Creating the New Kitchen Hazards Course
Finally, we finished the month by filming in a commercial kitchen in Perth. This once again was a challenge, as the area to film in was limited and cramped.
It also moved our safety thinking out of construction and resources into food handling and kitchen hazards. This training course will also be included in the pre-built content via the TIS platform to freely use within our annual subscription.
